Music themes for your W880i

The Sony Ericsson W880i is the leanest, meanest music phone on the market, and if you like your music, you'll want your phone to reflect your tastes, right down to the desktop theme.

Sony Ericsson has included some stylish themes with the W880i - we're big fans of Citybeat with its cool linear menu and vibrating feedback - but there are hundreds more themes waiting to be downloaded across the web.

Uploading a theme from your PC using Bluetooth or via a USB connection is usually easier and cheaper than downloading from the mobile web, though you may need to register for some download sites (including Zedge.net) but it's well worth it.

Activating a theme is easy too, and if you don't like what you see, you can simply revert to your old theme or activate another in a few seconds.

There are hundreds of music-themed free downloads for your W880i. Some are abstract, like Clubpulse, where lights shoot across the screen like a graphic equaliser, while others would appeal more to the classical market; one theme, simply called Music, displays a collection of stylish images which change depending on which menu you're in.

Headphones is simple but stylish, and there are nice 'bubble' effects on the tabbed menus. Turntables is less intricate, but does have an impressive wallpaper image.

Being a Walkman phone, some designers have taken it upon themselves to try and better Sony's own branded themes. One Walkman theme - we've called it Green Walkman - is a modified version of Sony's original W800 theme, with a cool green shade and stylish tabbed buttons.

If you want to go even more retro, how about this Old School Walkman? Batteries not included...

Another animated Walkman theme has the liquid W gently pulsing away, while Walkaman (we're not sure how the extra 'a' got in there either) is a simple but effective orange design.

You might want to use your W880i to show off your favourite artists. Pink, Prodigy and the Red Hot Chili Peppers all have free W880i themes dedicated to them, as do Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi and Evanescence.

If your taste is more musical theatre, try the Phantom of the Opera - sleek, stylish and better looking than Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
