Zoom and rotate web pages with the W880i
Rhys Lewis
Your PC%u2019s browser window is wider than it is tall, so why stick with the portrait screen on your mobile when the W880i includes a landscape mode for web browsing?
Customise the appearance of the Sony Ericsson W880i's mobile web browser by changing text size and dimensions
The default browser text size on the Sony Ericsson W880i is quite small – the phone makes every effort to squeeze the content of mobile web pages into the phone’s 240x320-pixel screen but sometimes the text can be too small for comfort. By combining the phone’s zoom and landscape view functions, you can find a browser size that suits you.
Zoom
The W880i’s zoom feature lets you magnify the default size from 50% up to 200%. To zoom in or out of a page, click 0 and the zoom indicator (the current magnification between up and down icons) will appear in the top-right corner (Figure 1).
To zoom out, click the Up navigation key and the magnification will increase or decrease by 10% each press. Use the Down navigation key to zoom in (Figure 2).
As you zoom, the size of the text and images on the current page will increase instantly without you having to refresh the page.
When you’ve found a zoom level you’re comfortable with, press the centre navigation key to confirm and the zoom indicator will disappear.
Your browser will stay at this zoom level until you change the zoom level, regardless of which sites you visit or whether the browser is closed or the phone switched off.
Landscape mode
Your PC’s browser window is wider than it is tall, so why stick with the portrait screen on your mobile when the W880i includes a landscape mode for web browsing? Your pages will be wider and using Zoom you can make the most of image-rich sites like Flickr mobile
To switch the browser to landscape mode, when your page loads, click More, highlight View and click the right nav key to open the menu (Figure 3). Highlight Landscape and click Select to switch to Landscape mode (Figure 4).
Your browser proportions will switch automatically (Figure 5). Use the zoom function to find a comfortable text size. You’ll notice that because you’re in landscape mode, the functions of the nav keys have rotated accordingly, so the right key has become up and left is now down. Use these to zoom in and out, navigate around the page and scroll up and down.
Once selected, Landscape mode will be your browser’s default mode until you switch back to portrait.
