Edit photos from your handset
Alistair Warmington
Customise your phone camera pictures with fun extras, backgrounds and effects using tools built into the W810i
The Sony Ericsson W810i comes with a wealth of picture editing tools that you can use to spice up photos taken with the phone camera. You can add clipart images, frames and effects without exporting images to a PC by using the PhotoDJ function.
From the standby screen, press the centre button to enter the main menu. Scroll right to highlight Media Album and press Select (Figure 1). Highlight Picture, press Select (Figure 2), then highlight Camera Pictures and press Select (Figure 3). Here you’ll see your stored photos – scroll down to the one you want to edit and press View (Figure 4). You’ll see a vertical preview of your photo (Figure 5), so press More and a new menu will appear.
Scroll down to highlight Edit and press Select (Figure 6). The next screen will show the photo at pixel level so if you have taken your photos at the full 2.0 megapixel size, it might look a little confusing at first. You can navigate the cursor around the photo with the direction keys (Figure 7).
Press Tool to open up the tool menu. You will now see a range of editing options (Figure 8). At the top is Add clipart. This is used to a wide range of fun, cartoony images to your photos, such as party hats, wigs, sunglasses and more. Select the one you want and press Select. You will return to the full sized image with the clipart attached to the cursor. Move the cursor around with the direction keys to position your clipart in the right place and press the centre button to place it. To zoom out to see the final product, press More and highlight Preview picture, then press Select (Figure 9). If you have made a mistake, you can press Back twice and select No when prompted to Save your changes to get back to the original, unedited version.
You can also add a range of photo frames or add photographic effects, such as black and white, sepia and negative, using the same Tool option in the Editing menu. Once you’ve made a change, press Back until you are prompted to Save, then press Yes to store your changes.
Working on copies
If you don’t want to risk spoiling a photo accidentally, you can create a duplicate of any picture by highlighting it in the Camera Pictures menu, then pressing More. Scroll down to highlight Manage files and press Right (Figure 10). Now press Copy (Figure 11) on the new menu and select where you want the duplicate to appear. To create a copy alongside your other photo, choose Memory Stick and press Select (Figure 12 & 13), then highlight Camera pictures and press Open (Figure 14). Now press Paste to make a copy (Figure 15).
