Sending and receiving email on Sony Ericsson's W810i

Alistair Warmington

Creating and receiving email is almost as easy as sending SMS text messages from your phone

Once you’ve set up your W810i to send and receive POP3 emails you can easily compose, send and receive emails from your handset. Email tools are found in the same menu as your ordinary MMS and text messaging tools. To access them, press the centre button to enter the main menu. Highlight the Messaging and press Select (Figure 1), then scroll down to E-mail and press Select again (Figure 2).

You can create an email by highlighting Write new and pressing Select (Figure 3). Unlike an SMS, you’ll need to enter an email address by highlighting To: and pressing Add to add recipients (Figure 4). You can then choose to manually enter an email address by highlighting Enter E-mail addr. (Figure 5) then pressing Select. Previously entered address will also helpfully appear in the Add recipients menu, or if your email addresses are stored as part of your contacts information you can select them from your address book.

Once you’ve added a main recipient, you can add address to Cc and Bcc by selecting them from the Edit recipients menu.

Edit the Subject and Text (Figures 6 & 7) by highlighting the respective field in the Create new menu and pressing Edit. Add attachments such as pictures, sounds, themes, videos and business cards by highlighting Attachments and pressing Add.

Once you’re done, press Continue to get an overview of your message (Figure 8). You can also set message priorities here and choose to save as Draft or in the Outbox if you want to send the message later. Otherwise, hit Send to connect to you email provider and send your email.

To receive mail from your service provider and send messages in the Outbox, go back into the E-mail menu, highlight Inbox and press Select (Figures 9 & 10). To send and receive emails from your email provider, press Send&rec. Or, if you’re using multiple email accounts you can press Accounts to select your preferred email provider (Figure 11), then hit Send&rec. as before.

Tip: If you want to send an email to an address found on a website, you can do so by highlighting the link on the webpage and pressing Send to. This takes you directly to the Create new section of your email and automatically fills in the address field. Once you’re done, you will return directly to the webpage in the browser.
