Customise your W710i with themes

It's pretty straightforward to start customising your phone – most people will have tried out new ringtones, or set a photo as their wallpaper. But you can also change the look of your menu and the colour of the buttons and icons using themes.

A theme changes the whole style of your handset in one go so you don’t need to worry about spending ages designing it yourself. Some themes even come with new ring tones, message alert tones and screensavers. It is very likely that your network provider will start you off with a selection of themes for you to try out.

To change a theme, press the centre button while at the standby screen to enter the main menu. Scroll down and to the right to highlight the Settings icon and press Select (Figure 1). Now press Right twice to highlight the Display tab and scroll down once to highlight Themes and press Select (Figure 2). Now you’ll see a list of all the themes you currently have – to set a new theme, simply highlight it and press Set (Figure 3).

If you are already using another picture as a wallpaper, don’t worry – you’ll be asked whether you want to use the theme wallpaper or just keep your own. After a couple of moments, your theme will be set and you can check out your newly personalised phone.

Downloading new themes
To try another theme apart from those already installed in your W710i, from the Themes menu, highlight the Sony Ericsson link (Figure 4)(if available) and click Go to. This will connect you to the Themes section of Sony Ericsson's mobile web site, where you'll find many W710i themes to download and install for free (Figure 5).

To download a theme, simply highlight its name, click Select to see a preview, highlight Download and click Select to install (Figure 6). Click Yes to approve the download (Figure 7), and when the file downloads, click Yes when prompted to 'Use now'.

If you want to switch back to your original themes, these and your newly downloaded theme will be in the Themes section of the Display menu.
