Let contacts record their own tones on the W710i
Matthew Haigh
The W710i's contacts profiles let you set a different ringtone for each contact, but its voice recorder can make tones truly personal
“Hi, this is mum calling. Pick up the phone!” Far more likely to get your head off the pillow than your regular ringtone, don’t you think? And fortunately for mum, dad, your girlfriend, boyfriend, boss or whoever else you want to assign a personal voice ringtone to, it’s very easy to set up.
All you have to do is record an individual voice message and assign it to a contact as a ringtone.
Recording the ringtone:
- From the main menu, highlight Entertainment and click Select (Figure 1)
- Highlight Record sound and, when you’re ready to start the recording, click Select (Figure 2)
- The phone will beep and the recording will begin immediately (Figure 3). Get your contact to record their message and press Save when they’re finished (Figure 4)
- Press and hold the Back key to return to Standby mode
If your contact is already in your Contacts list, go straight to ‘Assigning the voice ringtone to a contact’, below. To add a contact:
- From the main menu, highlight Contacts and click Select
- Highlight New contact, click Add and enter a name and number for the contact, pressing OK each time to confirm, and selecting a type of number when you add the phone number.
- Press Save to save the new contact
Assigning the voice ringtone to a contact:
- From the main menu, highlight Contacts and click Select (Figure 5)
- Highlight the name of the relevant contact, click More, highlight Edit contact and click Select (Figure 6)
- Click the right navigation key twice until you see the options for Picture and Ringtone. Highlight Ringtone and click Add (Figure 7)
- Highlight Sound and click Select (Figure 8). The screen will display your Music gallery, and your recorded ringtone will be listed, under a name beginning with ‘Recording’ (a number may be added in brackets after this)
- Highlight the recording you want to use, click Play to check that it’s the right recording, and press Select to assign it to the contact (Figure 9)
- Finally, press Save to confirm and hold down the Back key to return to Standby mode (Figure 10)
The next time your chosen contact calls, you’ll hear their voice telling you to answer. You can do this with as many contacts as your memory card will allow.
