Changing your navigational shortcut keys

John Murphy

The keypad on your W300i can be used to access shortcuts

Access your favourite features by changing the shortcuts on your Sony Ericsson W300i

The keypad on your W300i can be used to access shortcuts to some of your favourite features, you can change which features are accessible very easily.

Below the screen there are two buttons on either side, these are the most important for driving this phone. What they will do at any point is indicated on the screen just above them. On your opening screen the left will be “calls” and the right will be “menu”.

Below the left button is one with a bent arrow on it. This is your back or get out of trouble button. Keep pressing and you will end up back at the opening screen. Under the right button is “C” for cancel, used for correcting text.

In the middle of the keypad is a ring around a big button, this main button acts in the same way as the left hand ‘Select’ key but is often a more convenient button to press

The ring has four points used to move the cursor around the screen when in text mode, or for example when looking at your calendar (Known as the Navigation keys). From the opening screen it also can be programmed as “favourites”.

For a phone that is quite complex to operate it is a shame that only three favourites can be programmed.

To do this follow these instructions

  • Go to menu
  • Settings
  • General
  • Shortcuts

The four options are there. “Navig key up” is defaulted to the camera (this cannot be changed), “Navig key left” the SMS.

If you want to change any options follow these instructions

  • Select edit
  • Select the feature you wish to find a shortcut to ie. Media player
  • Then press “shortcut” on the top right key.
