How to set up and use email on the Sony Ericsson W890i
You can set up your Sony Ericsson W890i to compose, send and receive emails with attachments from your regular email accounts
In addition to texts and MMS picture messages, the Sony Ericsson W890i has a feature that enables you to send and receive emails from your normal email account, straight from your phone.
Like most current mobile phones, the Sony Ericsson W890i can be configured to work with your regular POP3 email account or multiple accounts. It's set-up is similar to a desktop email, with inbox, outbox, compose, send and receive functionality. It can also handle and display attachments for viewing.
Sony Ericsson has equipped the W890i with software to help you set up your email automatically, simply by entering basic details such as your email address, username and password. It interrorgates its database for the setiings and automatically sets up your email accounts quickly and easily.
You can set up several accounts for different email addresses, following the same procedure outlined below for each. You can then switch between accounts as you need to.
In addition, Sony Ericsson has downloadable over the air settings for some internet email providers and mobile operators at its website at www.sonyericsson.com/support. Here, though, we show you how to set up email straight from the phone.
When you're configuring your W890i with your email settings, you can choose when and how often you log on to receive your emails instead of having an always-on connection. That means you can keep data costs to minimum. If you're email provider supports it, it is possible to set up BlackBerry-style Push email on the W890i too.
POP3 technology lets users retrieve emails remotely from systems not directly connected to their device or network. You’ll need to refer to your email provider to see whether it offers POP3 functionality, but currently a lot of web-based email providers offer the service, although in some cases it is only part of the premium service and not available to standard users.
If you’re using a web-hosting package with mail forwarding, you’re almost certain to have POP3 email. If you’re using an office email system and want remote access to your mail, you’ll need to contact your IT department and ask if the system is configured for POP3.
