Sony Xperia Yuga leaks online
More leaks of Sony's next flagship confirm Qualcomm processor, LCD display and glass back panel
Sony’s next flagship, the C660X Xperia Yuga has again leaked online, this time at the hands of grand inquisitor of tech Eldar Murtazin, who’s managed to upload a couple of photos as well as setting the record straight on the rumoured spec line-up.
Glass back-panels seem to be all the rage on new phones just as Apple has started ditching them with the iPhone 5 and, as previous rumours indicated, the Xperia Yuga does indeed also sport a black glass panel on the rear.
The display is a 1080p 5-inch LCD rather than the previously suggested OLED and instead of the rather oddball suggestion of Samsung Exynos hardware the Yuga will, in fact, be based on Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro.
What isn’t clear is the camera tech. It’s pretty much a given that it’ll be something fairly special, being a Sony flagship it’ll be using the latest iteration of the company’s Exmor BSI sensor tech, the current generation being the Exmor RS range.
However, earlier rumours indicated first a 12-megapixel setup and then 13-megapixels. More recently it’s been suggested the Yuga may have a 16-megapixel primary camera.
We think this is unlikely, Sony knows its camera tech well enough to know that simply driving the megapixel rating up isn’t going to necessarily produce the best image quality.
Nokia’s Lumia 920 is proof enough that with the right supporting tech an 8-megapixel sensor is more than adequate for shots which have you questioning the idea they were taken on a phone.
The Xperia Yuga will in all likelihood be renamed before it appears in public, but it’s expected to do so fairly soon at the CES expo in January 2013 and again at Mobile World Congress in February.
