The Sony Xperia Z now has an official UK price tag having appeared on Sony's web store

The Sony Xperia Z flagship now has an official UK price tag from Sony as the handset has appeared in the company’s online web store.

Listed as ‘coming soon’ and showing colour options for black, white or purple, the Sony Xperia Z is priced at £529 including VAT.

Currently you can’t place a pre-order, but you can register to receive a notification as soon as sales begin.

For that premium price you do get a pretty premium spec line-up. The back panel and display are made from Dragontrail reinforced glass which is tremendously strong and gives an interesting look to the handset.

The fit and finish is top notch and it’s an incredibly thin device at 7.9mm, there’s also the IP57 certification for dust and water resistance and waterproofing.

The display panel is a 5-inch LCD powered by the impressive Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2 for punchier colours. OptiContrast ensures good contrast and whites are particularly vivid on the screen. A 1920x1080 pixel resolution results in a sharp pixel density of 443 pixels-per-inch (ppi).

Power comes from a sizeable 2,330mAh battery and a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 chip combined with 2GB of dual-channel RAM and an Adreno 320 GPU.

Onboard storage is 16GB with card support for microSD up to 32GB. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth, NFC, microUSB, GPS and MHL TV-out.

Sony’s camera tech is as impressive as ever with the company’s new Exmor RS CMOS back-illuminated sensor (BSI). One the Sony Xperia Z it’s a 13-megapixel snapper with autofocus, face detection, stabilisation, LED flash and video light, panoramic sweep and HDR. Video capture is 1080p while a 2.2-megapixel front-facing secondary can also capture at 1080p and make video calls.

All this runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean which is fast, smooth and easy to use. It has the new Sony UI as an overlay which makes a number of changes but is altogether quite a rewarding experience.
