Nokia Internet Radio review

We review Nokia Internet Radio, your very own Symbian S60 Internet Radio

Most modern devices now have huge storage capabilities, couple this with the arrival of Spotify, which is now available on iPhone and Android phones, and you can sometimes be a little spoilt for choice.
However, when all this selection becomes too much, you can always revert back to the old school, and turn to the radio, specifically Nokia Internet Radio in this context.
We found this little app to be one hell of an addition to our apps folder. At just 380KB it is a pretty small app - but don’t let its meagre size fool you, this is a seriously good bit of kit.
Once the app is installed, and you’ve gone through the warnings from Nokia about data usage, you can access well over a thousand radio stations from all over the globe.
Unfortunately, this is not an app for those on limited data plans, and if you use it regularly without Wi-Fi or GPRS, you can expect some significant internet bills.
We used a 3G connection, which provided seamless quality, and a very fast service - although, we’re still waiting for the data bill to come through!
However, data plans aside, this is a seriously good app, and it really puts Nokia’s standard built in FM radio to shame. The display is simple, and the app is extremely easy to use.
All of the relevant controls, such as adding favourites, pause and play function, and searching for stations, are all accessible at the touch of a button in the main menu.
Unfortunately, the selection of available stations isn’t as good as you’d expect - so you won’t be binning you DAB radio anytime soon.
Nevertheless, there is an adequate selection of stations from all over the globe, even though some really obvious stations, such as local BBC ones, didn’t seem to show up, which was a little disappointing.
The apps search function is extremely easy to use: simply type in the search criteria, such as language, genre, or country and you’re away. As we said, the selection isn’t amazing, but there is enough bizarre, strange, and eclectic stations on there to keep you occupied for hours.
In short, Nokia has really brought something to the table here. It’s free, very easy to use, and providing you have a decent data plan, you will be able to get some serious internet radio action from all around the world.
A definite must for anyone who enjoys the radio, but doesn’t necessarily want to fork out for a DAB radio.
