Tweets60 review

We review Tweets60, a Twitter client for Symbian S60
Published on Sep 10, 2009
There are a range of Twitter clients out there for your mobile phone but Tweets60 is the latest offering to be compatible with Nokia Symbian S60 smartphones, such as the 5800 Xpress Music or E71.
The fact that Tweets60 is free may well entice people in, who doesn’t like something for nothing? But do you get that special something with this app?
The interface is incredibly plain but in turn it makes it simple to use and does tend to load at a quicker pace. You get given the option of which type of connection to use and then your status feed appears.
Images lay down the left with your tweets hurriedly updating and trying to keep up with themselves on the right.
An option menu gives you the choices you need on the move, be it re-tweeting, direct messaging, checking your followers or sending a new tweet. The list format of the options is also the same as all other lists on the smartphone, again increasing simplicity of use.
But as the saying 'something for nothing' suggests, there is always a risk that you get nothing.
To put it simply, Tweets60 would be a handy simple little app, if it would stay open long enough for us to achieve anything.
We tried the application for almost two weeks and each time, without fail, it would shut down within about 20 seconds. Even for the fastest tweeter, this barely gives you time to load up, navigate the menu and type more than 10 of your 140 characters.
It also meant as the feed loaded, avatars of those you followed would rarely have time to appear so even if you chose to use your 20 seconds reading, you would not get the full experience.
Yes it is free and so may not compete with other paid for superior apps instantly but many would happily give up the shiny added extras to have something simple and quick that worked, just like this promises to be for the first 19 seconds.
However until the creators fix this bug and give you more time to address your tweeting needs, we suggest you don’t even bother.
