We review Surf Report, an app to aid surfers judge the best conditions for riding waves
Published on Oct 12, 2009
There aren’t many places that surf dudes can congregate and do their thang in Blighty. Mother Nature has seen to that.
But what surfers can do is go somewhere else for the perfect swell.
This handy iPhone app brought to us by Oakley, doesn’t look that much based on the first menu you come across, but it is pretty cool nonetheless.
You just choose your worldwide location, then drill down into more specific locations such as beaches in the northeast of England.
The app will then furnish you with details as to what the weather is like at your chosen place that day, in addition to providing further details of tide and such like.
There’s also the familiar Google Maps pin, meaning you can get a bit more data to help guide your surfing plans, including directions from your non-surfing hell to your surfer’s paradise, just by clicking a button.
You can adapt the way information is displayed (temperature can be Fahrenheit or Celsius, for example) in the settings panel.
There’s also a little community button where budding – or more seasoned – surfers can keep abreast of the latest surfing news as well as looking at surfy pics and videos.
