We review Wind Meter, an app to help you judge the wind levels
Wind Meter measures the wind using mic sensors
Published on Oct 12, 2009
Britain is probably known more for its windy and rainy weather than anything else but for those living here, they can often suffer from the wrong type of wind. No, not like that.
Wind and kite surfers and those into sailing among other interests need certain conditions to be in place in order to fully enjoy their chosen sport, so working out how the wind will behave that day is quite key.
This app turns your iPhone into a Wind Meter so that you can quickly and easily measure wind speed. It does this in a clever way by making use of the handset’s inbuilt microphone.
Getting a reading is simple. Users just need to launch the app, hold the iPhone in the air, turn it upside down (as the meter will be upside down otherwise) wait a moment and then press ‘Get Wind’.
The meter on the front of the phone will move around like a traditional meter and then come back with a reading, which can be converted into a range of measurement formats depending on your preference.
For those with sporting interests that are reliant on the weather being just so, this app will prove very appealing. And for those who aren’t into wind surfing and the like, it could become their new favourite toy.
