We review Capsuleer, a must-have for any EVE Online addicts that lets you keep up with your game characters

First and foremost, this is an application that has been written for people that play EVE Online. EVE is complicated game, one that has many aspects that are useful to be able to monitor while you’re not at your PC. However, you can’t directly access your EVE account using Capsuleer, only read data that it pulls off the server.

The most obvious element of EVE that you'll want to keep an eye on is your character’s training. Unlike many other massively multiplayer online role playing games, your character in EVE trains and develops in real time. Because you have to set skills to train your character, it’s good to know when one is finishing- so you can log in and select a new skill for the training schedule for when you’re away from the keyboard.

We successfully added four characters across three accounts to Capsuleer with no problems. In the character screen you're shown the character name, the amount of currency he/she has, what skill the pilot is currently learning and how long it’ll take. Pressing the icon that sits by each pilot’s entry will provide more detailed information such as the number of skill points they have, their clone grade, current corporation and the character’s attributes and attribute implants.

Being able to keep track of your pilots while you’re away is invaluable for anyone with more than one character in training at any one time. Before long, you’ll wonder how you ever did without it. But the creators of this app have added in more EVE-related features to help deal with your addiction while you’re out and about.

Firstly the headlines menu provides a wealth of EVE update notices from CCP, blogs and updates on the app itself from the creators. The former is not so useful as you could simply load up the EVE website in Safari and see the CCP announcements there. It’s good to know what’s happening to the app though as the developers add new features all the time and, with empty feature slots on the main web page, we can only guess what will be added in the future.

Capsuleer’s interface is beautifully designed and so simple that your mother could use it. If by some small chance she played EVE Online that is. Given that it’s free, Capsuleer is the essential iPhone for any EVE addict.
