Big Canvas PhotoShare review

We review Big Canvas PhotoShare, a photography sharing application for the iPhone

Published on Sep 4, 2009

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. The camera on the iPhone is pants. The iPhone 3G S has seen a definite improvement with its 3-megapixel camera though and with camera effects apps such as Quad Camera and ToyCamera, you can still have some fun with it. For this reason, we take a look at social photo sharing application, Big Canvas PhotoShare.

To use the app, you’ll first need to head over to www.bcphotoshare.com and sign up for a free account. Once you’ve done this and logged in, you’ll notice that the app has a lot of features listed in the menu. We don’t have enough space to go into all of them in this review, but we’ll outline the important ones to give you an idea of what’s what.

The more obvious one menu options allow you to view the photos you’ve taken and any you’ve added to your favorites folder. You can view anyone’s photos that have been made public and vice-verser. Friends and Family lists allow you to make some photos only available to see by certain groups if there are any personal snaps on there. The option is given to stamp a photo with these categories every time you upload one whether it’s from your photo library or a freshly taken shot.

Anyone can leave comments on anyone’s photos and it can be quite funny seeing what people have said about your snaps. It’s also quite rewarding if you’ve been playing around with a camera effects app such as ToyCamera to get a cool shot and then people let you know they approve. This is an international app so comments may not always be in a language that you understand. It seems to be very big in Japan for example and there is a lot of content and cool stuff uploaded from that part of the world.

There are different communities on the app too so weather you’re a fan of photographing cats or graffiti, there’s a group for you. We’re hesitant at handing out maximum scores here at KWM, but Big Canvas PhotoShare is one of those apps that does what it’s supposed to and does it extremely well. All features are accessible via their website which is as well put together and easy to use as the iPhone app. Considering it’s got more features than you can shake a 380mm lens at and the app is free, it’s very hard to pick holes in PhotoShare.
