Pop Art Lite review

We review Pop Art Lite, an application for the iPhone that helps you create art like a considerably more sober Andy Warhol
Published on Sep 4, 2009
Although the 'pop' in pop art stands for popular and the term directly translates into 'popular art' it does actually refer to a style and era that is more than just art that is popular.
If you follow us. Pop art was imbued with its pop tag for comprising of both mass-produced pieces and containing images from popular culture.
Arguably one of the most famous purveyors of pop art was Andy Warhol who's repeated images of Marilyn Manson and tins of Campbell's soup border on the infamous. It is this style that Pop Art Lite attempts to recreate in a nifty app for your beloved iPhone.
When you fire up the app you're given a choice of importing a photo from your library or taking a fresh snap from your camera.
Obviously the latter wont be available to anyone with an iPod touch to you'll first need some snaps to work with if you've using one. Once you've selected your picture, Pop Art Lite takes you to a preview page where you can see what the finished piece might turn out looking like.
Underneath the image are two sliders which adjust the colour and contrast properties of the image. If you want more of the image to show through the slider on the left will adjust the brightness while the slider on the right increases the amount of the image that is taken up by the bright primary colours.
There's also an 'auto' mode that appears to adjust the settings to the optimum pop art-resembling position.
Although an uploaded image will only be split into four copies of itself at first, you can run it through the application once more to further the effect. For example an image that has been split into four will turn into an image that is split into sixteen when run through once again.
When you've created an image, you can save it to your library to show off your creative genius to your pals later.
While Pop Art Lite doesn't have a whole load of features, it does what the title suggests very well. It's very easy use and best off all, its free. There's a full version of Pop Art in the pipeline but at the time of writing it wasnt on the App Store. If you're looking for a way to add some style to your iPhone photos, the Pop Art Lite is a fine candidate.
