We review Free RSS Reader, an RSS app for the iPhone
Published on Oct 12, 2009
Everybody’s talking about RSS feeds these days. RSS is a simple but effective concept that brings the information (whether news, sports or whatever) directly to you, rather than you having to go to it.
Most websites today have an RSS icon so that you can easily sign up to their feeds.
There’s only one feed automatically entered into this app – unsurprisingly it’s one about Apple. At a glance, you can quickly see all the latest news to come out of the iPhone’s parent company. You can also very easily add new RSS feeds to your reader.
You simply click the ‘+’ button and enter the requested information about either the feed URL or by the site’s main URL.
We entered Mac User’s feed details www.macuser.co.uk/news/rss and within a matter of seconds, we had added the feed to our reader’s menu.
You get a listing of the latest headlines, and more detail about what that particular story/piece of content is is just a click away thanks to the ‘view website’ button.
The app also lets you import Google Reader, Bloglines and Newsgator too, provided you have accounts with these services. As the RSS Reader app is free, it will only import the first three feeds from these other apps.
All in all, RSS Reader makes keeping up to date with the info that matters to you on the move easy.
