We review I Am T-Pain, an iPhone application port of Auto-Tune, the professional music application that lets talentless people sing in tune and pop stars sell records
I Am T-Pain is a music app for the iPhone

I Am T-Pain is an iPhone application made by developers Smule who have ported a professional music tool called Auto-Tune to the iPhone. Let's start off with a little introduction to Auto-Tune.
It's the tool that pop musician T-Pain uses to make his voice hit the right notes in the song and imbue it with that electronic twang.
The effect has also been used by musicians such as Cher and Daft Punk in their music. While there used to be a time when being a singer loosely revolved around the ability to sing, this is no longer the case.
All that is needed is to talk into a microphone and Auto-Tune will tweak the tone of your voice up or down so that it matches the melodies of a track which in this case, is made by T-Pain.
I Am T-Pain opens up with a professionally-drawn interface resembling a stage where your singing 'talents' can be flaunted.
Added to the application is a number of T-Pain's more popular songs such as Kiss kiss, I'm on a boat and Buy you a drank. However not all of the tracks are included for free.
There are three tracks bundled with the application and if you want to hear your voice spliced over others then it will cost you the princely sum of 59p.
Once you have a track on your iPhone, the app will download the lyrics which then appear in text form on your screen so that you can record the audio. The app recommends that you use a mic for the best results and rightly so. The quality is significantly better with a headset in.
Not being massive fans of pop music, we didn't know the lyrics to any of T-Pain's songs.
This made us the perfect guinipgs for the app as we wouldn't be able to so much as try to get it right. After successfully recording a couple of awesome pop tunes we played back the song to hear our handy work. The app had indeed applied the lyrics correctly which was quite amazing.
There's an option to change key of a recorded set of lyrics and you can share your work via email, Facebook, Twitter or MySpace at the push of a button.
It's a shame that more tracks aren't included for the price but I Am T-Pain is good for a chuckle and, with it's social fun capabilities, you should get your money's worth, especially if your a T-Pain fan.
