We review Dream Meanings, an iPhone app that translates your dreams into meaningful explanatHave you ever wondered what your dreams actually mean? Have you ever been troubled by night time visions or premonitions, many of which contain disturbing images or messages?
If the answer is yes then we’d advise that you lay off the cheese before bed and under no circumstances should you sully your iPhone with the laughable app Dream Meanings in an effort to uncover the truth.
The creators of this piece of digital detritus maintain that it will allow you to unlock the hidden meanings behind your nocturnal visions but in all honesty you’ll probably end up even more confused after reading the implausible explanations than you did before.
Dream Meanings covers all the usual suspects, such as being chased, visions of heaven, going on a long journey and becoming famous. It also covers some more unlikely topics, such as volcanoes, car trouble, growing a beard and robots.
Once you’ve found the subject which most closely describes your dream, you can tap it and view an obscure and often entirely unrelated image, usually taken from Flickr or some other copyright-free site. The image even credits the source at the top of the screen.
Tapping the information icon displays a passage which brief explains the meaning of the dream, although never in the kind of depth that is likely to put your mind at ease.
Aside from being able to save the image to your phone’s gallery, there’s little else to do here. The lack of functionality it made even worse by the fact that you don’t even get access to all of the explanations – the vast majority of them are locked and can only be viewed by purchasing the full application.
This is a very sneaky tactic as Dream Meanings is advertised as a full app, and not a “lite” version. Many people are likely to be fooled by this falsehood and will download the app without realising that to get the full package they are going to have to lay out some cash.
We wouldn’t mind paying money if what was being offered was worth it; as it stands Dream Meanings is next-to-useless.
The vague explanations are terrible, the images are either unrelated or visually repulsive and even the interface is broken – swiping with your finger should slowly move the images along but instead they move far too rapidly, making it hard to select the dream you want.
Dream Meanings is an excellent example of just how bad some iPhone apps can be. Avoid it at all costs – if you don’t have bizarre and unexplainable dreams before downloading this, you’ll certainly have nightmares afterwards.
