We review the University of Maryland's Medical Encyclopedia for the iPhone
Published on Oct 12, 2009
Having a medical encyclopedia to hand is always useful, especially if you have children.
The University of Maryland’s encyclopedia is in depth, easy to use and accessible to anyone, whatever your medical knowledge.
The app is divided into a number of sections, including symptoms, that relate to illness, injury, disease, surgery, nutrition, special topics and poison and tests.
Both symptoms and injury can be used as diagnosis techniques to help you decide whether you, or anyone you are diagnosing needs medical attention.
You’re presented with a list of symptoms or accident situations in alphabetical order. Pick a symptom and the app will provide you with information including a definition, considerations and common causes. You can also view any treatments too.
Disease and surgery both outline different medical terms and illnesses, while nutrition is handy at giving advice about how to be healthy and stay healthy.
Poison outlines the effects of different poisons and overdoses, while tests gives step-by-step instructions of how different medical tests are carried out.
Medical Encyclopedia is packed with information – most of it you won’t use, but for those moments when you need some quick medical advice, this app is well worth a free download.
