We review AroundMe, an iPhone app that can help you find places based on your current location
AroundMe is your one stop shop for PoIs in your current location

There’s nothing worse than arriving in a new place and not knowing where anything is, which is why AroundMe is an excellent application for the iPhone.
It’s a PoI search tool that relies on triangulation location techniques together with a GPS signal to find local points of interest around you, including banks and ATM machines, bars, coffee houses, petrol stations, hospitals, hotels, parking, pharmacies, restaurants and supermarkets for starters.
The app picks your location up faster than any navigation app will on the iPhone, even loading faster than Google Maps.
If your location isn’t accurate, you can enter the postcode, city or even neighbourhood name, although we found it to be extremely accurate, even when inside.
When you select one of the categories, you can view the closest options near where you are, with the distance, a map and phone number, with the option to email the details, add to your favourites and post to Twitter. You can also get directions for car drivers, public transport and pedestrians.
AroundMe is a simple to use application, with a vast number of PoIs in its database. Although you will need a network connection and preferably GPS connection, it’s leaps and bounds better than other apps with the same function.
