Attention Supermarket lists supermarket deals

Attention Supermarket is admittedly something of a micro-app, and not really conducive to a long and explorative review, but it’s proven so useful over the last few weeks it demanded a write up.
Believe it or not, supermarkets are actually more interested in turning a whopping profit than making savings for you. Sounds outrageous, I know, but it’s the truth. But it’s not as easy as filling shelves to the roof anymore, and supermarkets now attempt to baffle and dazzle us with all kinds of crazy special offers.
But these aren’t always the money saving gifts they first appear to be. This small iPhone application helps you to work out, for yourself, which products and brand is actually offering the cheapest price. For example, one brand of pasta is giving you three 500g bags for the price of two at £2.99. Another brand isn’t even on offer, with a single 750g bag of pasta costing £1.39. Which do you buy?
Attention Supermarket presents you with two boxes. In each box, you enter the quantity (in amount, grams, kilograms, millilitres or whatever) and the price. It then tells you the cost of each item from the perspective of a common denominator, so you’ll be able to see how much those bags of pasta cost per can, or per kilogram, and therefore figure out which one is actually cheaper. In the rather basic example above, it’d be cheaper to take the 750g bag can that isn’t actually on special offer.
It’s one of those casual lifestyle apps that will not only get loads of use as you scour the supermarket shelves looking for the real bargains, but will quickly pay for itself as you avoid the pitfalls of modern consumerism.
