Adobe has finally unveiled its long awaited Flash 10.1 for mobile – giving users access to Flash-rich websites on their mobile handsets

Published on Jun 22, 2010

The highly anticipated Flash Player 10.1, which is available on Android 2.2 smartphones and tablets, has been released.

However, Adobe will also make the update available on the following platforms: BlackBerry, webOS, future versions of Windows Phone, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian OS – unfortunately, though, iPhone users will have to do without.

The new Flash Player 10.1 features some rather notable features such as, support for accelerometer, Smart Zooming and Smart Rendering, which ensures that Flash content is running only when it is rendered on the screen – this, apparently, saves battery and CPU power.

However, that’s not all. Flash 10.1 also features advanced out-of-memory management, which allows users to handle non-optimised content that consumes excessive resources, while automatic memory reduction decreases content usage of RAM by up to 50%, claimed Adobe.

So far, the following devices will support Flash 10.1:

  • The Dell Streak
  • Google Nexus One
  • HTC Evo
  • HTC Desire
  • HTC Incredible
  • DROID by Motorola
  • Motorola Milestone
  • Samsung Galaxy S

And the new iPhone 4 – or, at least it would, if Apple would listen to its consumers…
