When the Lonely Planet Travel Guide was first released onto the App Store, it cost a staggering £7.99. Now it's free!

Lonely Planet Guides may not include every Lonely Planet Guide available (you'll have to pay around £8.99 for each additional guide), it does come bundled with San Francisco and a Mexican Spanish Phrasebook, which saves you pennies from the outset if you're planning on visiting California or Central America.

Lonely Planet's layout makes it much easier to lug around on your iPhone or iPod Touch compared to the books, so that's a winner in our eyes, especially as you can get it for free on your iPhone.
