Google has updated its Google Earth app to version 2.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch users
Published on Nov 19, 2009
A new version of the Google Earth imaging app is now available to download from the Apple store.
The specially developed iPhone version of the app launched a little over a year ago, and quickly racked up huge download numbers on the back of its popular desktop counterpart.
Fast-forward one year and it may not still be at the dizzying heights of 'second most downloaded app' but there will be a fair few people happy to hear news of this new version.
Google Earth 2.0 brings with it some neat new features as well as a generally improving the usability of certain functions.
Amongst the improvements is integration with the desktop client; meaning that users can now save custom maps via the desktop and then view and edit them via an iPhone. This is all achieved through the use of Google's cloud based MyMaps feature, allowing you to take your preferences with you, so long as you use the same log in details.
The new iteration also brings with it better implementation of touch icons, with a little tap now showing a gentle on-screen glow around the icon and prodding at a more clumsy selection that covers more than one icon brings up an itemised list to make sure you select the one you were after.
As well as minor performance tweaks, that's about it for most of the update; except of course that Google Earth is now available in an extra 13 different languages – bringing the total available to 31.
