Wannabe astronauts and space travel fans can now keep up to date with NASA missions in real-time with NASA's first iPhone app

Published on Oct 27, 2009

NASA has launched an iPhone app allowing users to access space mission data from official US Space Agency sources.

The app provides information on current missions, as well as plans for the future, and also includes a real-time mission orbit tracker allowing you to 'track the orbits of your favourite spacecraft.'

Now, we don't have a favourite spacecraft, yet, but in true multimedia fashion, the app attempts to engage users with still images and 'intriguing video links', as well as good old fashioned text info.

And what real-time space travelling app would be complete without an integrated Twitter update feature, allowing you to keep abreast of current mission happenings at a glance.

OK, so it's not going to be quite like the real thing, but for those of us without the requisite dough for a spot of space tourism, and an interest in the secrets of the thermosphere, NASA's first iPhone app will have to do for now.
