Browsing the Internet

Get faster internet access than traditional GSM speeds

Use your X820 to surf the web and bookmark your favourite websites using the integrated WAP browser

The Samsung X820 comes equipped with a WAP browser and GPRS/EDGE connectivity that gives you faster internet access than traditional GSM speeds. The browser performs very similar actions to an ordinary PC based web browser, but simplifies the operation to suit the limitations of a mobile phone.

By default, your X820 uses the ‘i’ button in the centre of the direction pad as a shortcut to take you directly into your WAP browser. You can also enter the browser from the standby screen by pressing Menu, then scrolling left to highlight the ‘Browser’ icon. Now press Select and choose ‘Home’.

When you enter the browser, you phone will automatically connect to your selected Internet profile and take you to your home page. If you want to change your home page follow these steps:

  • From the standby screen, press Menu to enter the main menu.
  • Press left once to highlight the ‘Browser’ icon, then press Select (Figure 1).
  • Scroll down to the seventh menu item, called ‘Browser settings’, then press Select (Figure 2).
  • Highlight your current profile (marked with a radio button) then press Options (Figure 3).
  • Highlight ‘Edit’ and press Select (Figure 4).
  • Scroll down to highlight ‘Homepage URL’, press C to clear the default address then enter your new home page address (Figure 5)
  • Press Save to save your new homepage and you will return to the ‘Browser settings’ menu.

If you wish to add a new bookmark, you can do so within the browser by pressing Options. Scroll down to highlight ‘Enter URL’ (Figure 6)and press Select. You can use this to simply navigate to any particular website address, but if you scroll down and highlight the ‘Add bookmark’ (Figures 7 & 8) button and press the ‘i’ button in the centre of the direction pad to check the box. When this is selected you can scroll down one step further and enter a title for your bookmarked page (Figure 9).

If you have already navigated to a page that you subsequently want to bookmark, you can do so by pressing Options and scrolling down to ‘Bookmarks’, the seventh item. Press Right on the direction pad to expand the menu. Choose ‘Add’ and press Select. All the info from the page will be automatically added although you can adjust the settings as you prefer. Press Save to store your new bookmark.

You navigate to bookmarked pages in the very same way. Choose ‘Bookmarks’ from the browsers Options menu and the select ‘View’ (Figure 10). You will now see a list of your bookmarks (Figure 11). Press Options, then Select to navigate to the one highlighted.

You also don’t need to enter the WAP browser to add a new bookmark. Enter the browser menu by press Menu on the standby screen, then scroll left to highlight the ‘Browser’ icon and press Select. Highlight ‘Bookmarks’ and press Select. Press Options to bring up a new menu, then choose ‘Add bookmark’. Now enter a name for your Bookmark, then press Down and enter the website address. When you’re done press Save to store your new bookmark.
