Connecting a Bluetooth device to the Samsung D900

Adding Bluetooth devices to the Samsung D900 is easy

Creating Bluetooth connections with devices such as Headsets and PDAs to the Samsumg D900 takes less than a minute.

Once you have enabled Bluetooth and configured the security, you can add a device such as a headset or a PDA. The SGH-D900 supports several Bluetooth services and a full list of these can be found by going to the Bluetooth menu and taking option 6. Among the choices are headset, hands free, stereo headset, file transfer, printing and dial-up networking. The help menu will explain what each of these services does.

Not every device you will attach to your SGH-D900 will use or require all of these services. Additionally, some devices may not behave as you expect. For example, the main use of Bluetooth headsets is to provide a complete hands free service. With the current driving laws in the UK, this has become a must for anyone who owns a car. While the SGH-D900 allows you to take calls on your headset, it does not support hands free or voice dialling unless you purchase a separate car kit from Samsung.

Connecting devices is relatively simple; start by going to the Applications icon and clicking on Bluetooth to open the Bluetooth menu. Now select option 2, My Devices. This will show you what devices are currently connected to your phone and allow you to activate, remove and see what services each device supports.

Before trying to locate or pair with your Bluetooth device, you need to ensure that the device is turned on and in pairing mode. Each Bluetooth device manufacturer has their own way of doing this so you will need to refer to the device handbook.

Once the Bluetooth device is ready, select Search New device. The SGH-D900 will begin to look for any devices to which it can pair. Some devices can only be paired with by having a PIN number while others can be connected to without any additional information. After a few seconds, the SGH-D900 will show you the first device that it has found. If this is not the device you want, you can ask it to do a more comprehensive search and give you a list of any devices in range that you could connect to.

When you see the device you want to connect to, you press Select and the phone will ask you for a PIN number. This is the number that the device needs to create the connection. Depending on the type of device, this might be a manufacturer set number (0000 for headsets) or something that you have already set on a device such as a PDA.

The phone will then verify the PIN number with the remote device and ask it for a list of services that it supports. If it can find common services between the device and the phone, it will then create a connection.
