Change the personality of your Samsung D600 mobile phone with a few easy tweaks

Published on Mar 12, 2007

While the Samsung SGH-D600 doesn’t offer the same themes method for adapting your phone’s appearance in the way that Nokia and Sony Ericsson do, there are still a number of things you can do to give your phone more of a personal feel. Setting your photos as a wallpaper is one way and it looks especially good thanks to the clear, sharp screen.

But you can also change the style of the main menu, how dialled numbers appear, the background colour of your menus and more using ‘Display settings’. To adjust the display settings, follow these steps:

  • Enter the main menu form the standby screen by pressing Menu.
  • Scroll down and right to highlight ‘Settings’ and press Select (Figure 1).
  • The third item on the Settings list is ‘Display settings’. Choose it and press Select (Figure 2).
  • The first item here is ‘Wallpaper’ (Figure 3). To change your wallpaper, press Select then navigate to the folder where the picture you want is kept, e.g. in ‘Photos’ (Figure 4). Note: By default, images you receive over Bluetooth will be saved in the Downloaded images folder.
  • Highlight the photo you want, then press Options; scroll down once and press Save.
  • Press Back twice to return to the ‘Display settings’.

There are two styles of main menu to choose between. By default this will probably be set to ‘Block’, which is rather static menu layout.

  • For something a bit more animated, choose Flash menu (Figure 5) and press Select to save your choice and return to ‘Display settings’.

You can alter the background colour of your menu by changing the ‘Skin’:

  • The fourth item in the ‘Display Settings’ is called ‘Skin’. Highlight it and press Select (Figure 6).
  • Choose the skin colour you want (you’ll get a preview when you highlight it) and press Select to save and return to the ‘Display settings’.

One other way to give your phone a more personal feel, is to change the appearance of dialled numbers:

  • Highlight ‘Dialling display’ (Figure 7)in the ‘Display settings’ and press Select.
  • You can adapt the font size (Figure 8) and colour, and background colour using this.
  • Choose the parameter you want to change and press Select (Figure 9).
  • When you happy with your changes, press Save to keep your settings, then back to return to the ‘Display settings’ menu.

Finally, you can choose to have your calendar overlaid across your wallpaper. Choose ‘Calendar’ from the ‘Display Settings’ menu (eighth in the list) and press Select. Choose ‘On’ and press Select to apply the change.
