The Samsung SGH-D600 offers some surprisingly advanced photo editing tools that can be used to adjust your snapshots and add funky extras. The dedicated Image editor application is a fast, straightforward way of editing your photos on the go.
To access the Image editor, starting from the standby screen, press Menu to enter the main menu. Scroll up and right to highlight ‘Applications’ and press Select (Figure 1). Scroll down and highlight ‘Image editor’ and press Select (Figure 2).
You will need to load an image into the editor to continue; press Options, then press Right on the direction pad and choose ‘Open’, then press Select to choose a picture from your phone memory (Figure 3). You can also take a new photo to edit by selecting ‘Take a photo’.
Highlight the image you want to edit and press Options, scroll down to ‘Load’ and press Select (Figure 4). You will return to the Image editor and your picture will be loaded in.
There are a number of tools you can use to edit your picture (Figure 5). Press Options when you have an image loaded and you will see that you get a whole load of new options. The main editing tools are ‘Effects’, ‘Adjust’, ‘Transform’ and ‘Insert’. Scroll down to any of these and press Right on the direction pad to bring up further options. Press Select to preview the changes.
‘Effects’ (Figure 6) allows you to change the colour of the whole image or apply filters. Alongside the usual array of black & white and sepia functions, there are also more interesting ones like ‘Sketch’, ‘Posterize’ and ‘Solarize’.
‘Adjust’ lets you change the brightness, colour and contrast settings. This can be handy, not only for adding artistic effects to your snaps, but they can also help to draw out detail from shots taken in difficult lighting conditions. Transform allows you rotate and flip your image.
Using ‘Insert’ (Figure 7) lets you add extra parts to your picture. You have the choice of clipart, emoticons and frames. ‘Frames’ can used to add fun surrounds to pictures, where as ‘Clipart’ (Figure 8) lets you add little cartoony images to your photo. When you have chosen a clipart image, you can place it wherever you want on the photo by using the direction keys.
Once you have finished making changes, you’ll need to save your edited photograph. Press Options, then highlight ‘Save as’ and press Select. Hit Yes to save and then choose a name for your new picture. Sensibly, this won’t automatically overwrite your original photo either.
The D600 also has the unique PictBridge compatibility feature, which allows you to print directly to a compatible printer without needing a computer. To print via PictBridge, follow these steps:
- From standby, press Menu to enter the main menu.
- Press right to highlight ‘File manager’ and press Select (Figure 9).
- Choose ‘Images’ from the list and press Select (Figure 10). Navigate to your photo folder (Figure 11).
- Choose the image you want to print and press Options.
- Scroll down to ‘Print via’ (Figure 12) (thirteenth item in the menu) and press Right on the direction pad.
- Ensure that you phone is connected to the printer via the USB cable. Now highlight USB and press Select. Your phone will automatically enter PictBridge USB mode and start printing (Figure 12).
