The Android Jelly Bean update is due to arrive on the Samsung Galaxy S3 at some point during October, but Samsung won't say when exactly

Samsung has finally confirmed the Android Jelly Bean update will be arriving on the Samsung Galaxy S3 at some point during October.

The manufacturer won't commit to a more concrete answer than that as it goes through the final stages of testing.

As always, the update will arrive on SIM free versions of the S3 before it heads to network-branded devices, which will come as very frustrating news to some.

If you haven't already bought your Samsung Galaxy S3, we would highly recommend waiting until it launches in all its 4G glory on Everything Everywhere (EE) later in the year, because that version will come with Android Jelly Bean 4.1 already installed.

The Android Jelly Bean update will make the Samsung Galaxy S3 run faster thanks to the Butter UI, add expandable notifications, Android Beam, offline voice dictation and Google Now.

The update has already been released for the Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and Motorola Xoom, but many are still waiting for it to hit on some of the best selling Android devices such as HTC's range and the Samsung Galaxy S2.

More than 500 million Android handsets are in circulation around the world, but most are still waiting for the latest update to arrive.
