Samsung's Galaxy S3 will be updating to Android Jelly Bean 4.1 from the end of August

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S3 you might not have long to wait for the Jelly Bean 4.1 Android update, as reports claim it will be rolled out from August 31.

According to SamMobile, which posted news about a leaked pre-release 4.1.1 ‘test firmware build’, users would be better off to ‘wait for 15 days to get the official updates by KIES or OTA’.

The site revealed the official update would be pushed over-the-air (OTA) or via Samsung’s Kies update software ‘at the end of this month begin next month’, placing a start date of August 31.

However, this would initially hit unlocked SIM-free models, users who have a phone through a UK carrier network will have to wait until it’s approved and rolled out by that network.

That said, with a high-profile and popular phone such as the Galaxy S3, we expect most networks will be all too keen to get things moving as quickly as possible, so you probably won’t have to wait very long.

Earlier reports also indicated that updates for the Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note and the forthcoming Galaxy Note 2, which may or may not ship with Jelly Bean pre-installed, are being developed in tandem with the Galaxy S3 update.

The Galaxy S3 update has apparently been prioritised over these other devices though, as it is Samsung’s multi-million selling flagship. We’ll likely see updates for Samsung’s other popular models in the next few months.
