HTC working on 5-inch Galaxy Note style smartphone
HTC could bring a large-scale smartphone with a 1080p display to market by September
HTC is working on a 5-inch ‘phablet’ design which may hit the market as early as September, reports claim.
The news comes via hit-and-miss Asian site Digitimes which alleges it’ll feature a 1794x1080 pixel resolution, according to ‘industry sources’.
However, there is some compelling evidence from another source which supports the claim.
Benchmark statistics from GLBenchmark’s website show a device called the HTC 6435LVW was tested, with the same screen resolution mentioned above and sporting Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and an MSM8960 Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz with an Adreno 320 graphics processor (GPU).
Assuming, for a second, the screen size is dead-on 5-inches, the 1080p resolution would give a pixel density of 418 pixels-per-inch for some incredible visuals. With HTC’s recent One range the screens have been impressive with high pixel densities and clear, bright and colourful LCD technology.
There are references to US carrier Verizon, but while HTC has launched some US exclusives in the past, with Samsung’s Galaxy Note sitting virtually uncontested in the market and a sequel on the way, we think HTC will go for a wider release. It seems likely this will be another member of the HTC One portfolio.
Assuming the September-October release is accurate, you can expect to be hearing a lot more about this phone fairly soon.
