Google has confirmed that its Galaxy Nexus, following a US-wide sales ban, will be back next week, complete with software amendments

Google has confirmed its Galaxy Nexus will be coming back next week, following a US-wide sales ban and its removal from the company’s online Play store, making early access to Google’s Android Jelly Bean update a possibility once again.

Earlier in the week we noticed, following news of the US-wide sales ban, that Google had removed the Galaxy Nexus from both its US and UK-based Play stores. This was quite bizarre as the injunction, at least to our knowledge, should have only affected the sales in the US and not the UK.

Puzzled, Know Your Mobile reached out to Google and Samsung for answers, specifically to find out if the Apple injunction actually carried any weight here in the UK. Neither company responded to our enquiries. When we did eventually get a Samsung spokesperson on the phone they couldn’t even confirm that the Galaxy Nexus was no longer available via Play in the UK, which it clearly wasn’t.

Samsung finally broke its silence and spoke to ABC News, confirming that the Galaxy Nexus – shock horror – was in fact removed from Google’s Play store. What’s still unclear is why Google, knowing that it had to create a fix for this problem, didn’t just come clean, release a statement, and scupper all this pointless speculation rather than seemingly burying its head in the sand.

Here’s Samsung’s official line on the matter:

‘Samsung is disappointed with the court’s decision that denied our motion to stay. We believe today’s ruling will ultimately reduce the availability of superior products to consumers in the United States,’ a Samsung spokesperson told the US-based news agency.

They added: ‘We will continue to pursue an appeal of the Galaxy Nexus preliminary injunction, which we filed on July 2 to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Meanwhile, we are also working closely with Google to resolve this matter, as the patent in question concerns Google’s unified search function.’

Google has now confirmed that the Galaxy Nexus will be re-launched next week via the Play store, running Android Jelly Bean 4.1. The latest version of the search giant’s operating system is said to feature an update that addresses the issues in question, voiding Apple’s injunction against the device.
