Guide: How to manage your contacts on the Samsung Galaxy Note

How to create a new contact

1. Press the 'Apps' button in the bottom right of the homescreen, then tap 'Contacts'.
2. Press the 'Menu' key and tap 'Add Contact'.
3. Choose an account to store new contacts (such as a Google Mail account).
4. Enter the contact information in the various fields - you'll need at least a name and number. If you like you can come back and add in email addresses and other info later.
5. Press 'Save'.

How to add recent call numbers to your contacts

1. On the homescreen press the 'Phone' icon at the bottom left.
2. Press the button marked 'Recent' (second from the left icon).
3. Scroll to the number you want to add to contacts.
4. Press and hold the number.
5. Press 'Add to Contacts'.
6. Press 'Existing' to add the number to an existing contact or 'New' to create a new contact with the new number, as per the first part of this guide.
7. Enter the information you want to store for this contact.
8. Press 'Save'.

How to edit a contact

1. From the homescreen press the 'Apps' button.
2. Press the 'Contacts' icon.
3. Find the contact you want to edit, then tap it.
4. Press the 'Options' key.
5. Press 'Edit Contact'.
6. Make whatever changes you like.
7. Press 'Save'.

How to view a contact

1. Press the 'Apps' icon.
2. Press 'Contacts'.
3. Press and hold the contact you want to view and tap 'View Contact'.

How to delete a contact

1. Press the 'Apps' icon
2. Press 'Contacts'.
3. Press and hold on the contact.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page, then tap 'Delete Contact'.
5. It'll prompt you to confirm - press 'OK' to finalise the deletion.
6. Note that at the moment you can only delete one contact at a time.

How to create a new contact group

1. Press the 'Apps' icon
2. Press 'Contacts'.
3. Tap on the 'Group' icon (next to the magnifying glass icon.) 
4. Press the 'Menu' button
5. Tap 'New Group'.
6. Type in the name of your new group.
7. Press 'OK'.
8. Tick the boxes of the names you want to add to the group.
9. Press 'Done'.

How to delete a group

1. Press the 'Apps' icon.
2.  Press 'Contacts'.
3. Press the 'Group' icon (next to the magnifying glass icon).
4. Press and hold on the group you want to delete.
5. Press 'Delete Group'.
6. Press 'Yes' to confirm.

How to set an individual ringtone for a contact

Press the ‘Phone’ icon, then press the name of the contact you want to add a custom ringtone to.

Press the ‘Options’ key.

Tap ‘Ringtone’ and select a ringtone from the list.

To switch back to the default ringtone for a contact, select ‘Options’ > ‘Ringtone’ > ‘Default Ringtone’.

How to sort contacts

To sort contacts or set display options, press:

'Menu' > 'Display Options', then select from:

• 'Only contacts with phones': this hides email-only contacts.
• 'Sort list by': you can set this to sort by first or last name.
• 'View contact names as': you can set this to view contacts as first name or last name first.
• 'Choose contacts to display': select which source to use contacts from.
