Samsung’s Windows Phone 8-powered Ativ S has just gone up for pre-order over at Vodafone via Phones 4U

Looking quite a bit like a Galaxy S3 and turning up rather late to the Windows Phone 8 party, Samsung’s Ativ S, despite getting an exceptionally early launch, is now expected to get a UK release date sometime in December.

The handset is available from free on 24-month contracts. For that you get 600 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500MB of data plus 2GB of Wi-Fi at a monthly cost of £33.

The other option, arguably the better of the two, is still a 24-month affair but you pay £29.99 for the handset and £34 a month but get 2GB of data, 500MB of Wi-Fi, and unlimited calls and texts.

Speaking to The Inquirer, Samsung said: ‘the launch of Samsung Ativ S in the UK is scheduled in December. We will be bringing our customers a unique and best-in-class Windows Phone 8 experience.’

As of writing Vodafone is the only UK carrier confirmed to be releasing the Samsung Ativ S.
More networks are likely to be added as we approach the handset's December release, however, and the handset will, of course, be available SIM-free.
