Clove is taking pre-orders on the Samsung Galaxy Beam projector phone

Samsung's Galaxy Beam handset is now available to pre-order on UK retailer Clove's web store.

A pre-order will cost you £454.80 including the dreaded VAT, although at this point a precise release date isn't specified.

For that rather hefty sum of cash you get something which doesn't look too dissimilar to the Galaxy S or S2 and indeed it's similarly powered by a 1GHz dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processor.

It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and version 4.0 of Samsung's TouchWiz interface.

The rest of the spec isn't quite up to Galaxy S2 levels though, it has 8GB of onboard storage and 768MB of RAM, though it does have micro SD capability for up to 32GB on top.

The screen sounds fairly good, however, it's a 4-inch TFT capacitive multi-touch display with an 800x480 pixel resolution and a pixel density of 233 pixels-per-inch (ppi)

There's also a 5-megapixel primary camera with LED flash, face and smile detection and 720p video capture, along with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing secondary.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, microUSB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot, HSDPA, HSUPA, EDGE and GPRS.

The main thing you're paying for though is what gives the device the ‘Beam' name, that is, a built-in nHD projector. If you've a use for such a thing then more power to you.

Speaking of power, we're sure nothing says battery drain like a projector, but actually Samsung has thought ahead and included a sizeable 2000 mAh battery pack to keep things going.
