Lenovo might make Windows Phone 8 handsets this year, according to one executive

Having just announced a range of Android smartphones at CES 2013, Lenovo has gone on record saying that it is considering Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system as a possible avenue for it to create new products.

Company executive JD Howard spoke to attendees and while it was stressed that the platform is still under consideration rather than anything more solid, he did say there was a ‘good chance’ that Lenovo would create Windows Phone 8 hardware.

Howard explained Lenovo’s interest in developing for platforms where it sees a good amount of consumer interest, Android is therefore the obvious choice.

But he did also say that consumer concerns over Android security meant alternatives were worth looking at, implying that Windows Phone 8 is, in the company's view, more robust when it comes to malicious attacks.

Currently, Howard would only reveal that ideas are in the planning stage with proposed Windows Phone 8 projects being subject to internal review.

However, should anything a thumbs up, which would apparently happen around April, he implied we could see a Lenovo Windows Phone 8 device before the end of 2013.
