ZTE 5.7-inch smartphone in development
ZTE has another big smartphone up its sleeve with the 5.7-inch P945
ZTE is reportedly working on a 5.7-inch smartphone or ‘phablet’ known as the P945.
It’s not clear whether that is a final name or just a working title, but at present we know the P945 will go on sale in China. There hasn’t been any mention of release in other markets but it is still a possibility until ZTE says otherwise.
As well as being large it’s quite a thin device measuring under 9mm thick while the display will sport a 720p HD resolution. Visually it's fairly standard stuff with more than a passing resemblance to HTC's old pre-One X design style.
Inside is a 1.2GHz quad core chip – we don’t know what exactly but given Qualcomm’s apparent ubiquity going into 2013 we suspect it’ll be some kind of Snapdragon S4.
There’ll be an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a one-megapixel front-facer while power will come from a fairly substantial 3000mAh battery pack.
The P945 will be an Android handset, but we only know that it’ll run ‘ICS [4.0] or above’, so there’s a possibility of Jelly Bean 4.1/4.2 but nothing concrete.
If ZTE does have plans to introduce the P945 to a wider market we’d expect to see something announced at either CES 2013 next week or MWC 2013 in February.
We’ll be covering both events so will bring you any info we hear about this device as it emerges.
