Xbox Video not syncing with Windows Phone 8 handsets

Microsoft has officially responded to complaints about its Xbox Video service not syncing with Windows Phone 8 devices

Microsoft’s Xbox Video is not syncing with Windows Phone 8-powered handsets like the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X.

Tipped as one of Windows Phone 8’s bigger USPs, integration with Microsoft’s Xbox services is a key driving force behind Windows Phone adoption. Xbox Music works like a treat but Microsoft, for some reason, isn’t keen on letting you sync video rentals with your smartphone.

The exact reasoning behind the decision is not given, although we’d wager that it most likely got side-lined in order to get the platform out on time.

Here’s the official line from Microsoft: ‘Windows Phone 8 does not currently support playback of rented or purchased content from the Xbox Video Store.’

Apparently the service wasn’t designed to ever sync with Windows Phone 8, which is weird as there was no mention of this service not working with Windows Phone 8 at launch. Know Your Mobile, like a lot of users out there, assumed Microsoft’s Xbox services would all be bundled inside Windows Phone 8.

However, Microsoft advises users to head over to the Windows Phone Feature Suggestions page and recommend it for inclusion inside the next update, which means you won’t likely be seeing this feature anytime soon.

Guess we can put that one on the tab along with a notifications menu, faster loading applications, and some kind of gesture-based typing.
