Pictures and specs emerge of Oppo Find5 phablet with 5-inch 1080p HD touchscreen

Chinese manufacturer Oppo is working on a new 5-inch ‘phablet’ handset with a stunning 1920x1080 pixel resolution, giving a pixel density of 441 pixels-per-inch (ppi).

Currently it’s still in the prototype stages and there’s no word on when it might be release, if it will see launch in the UK and what kind of price we’re talking about.

But it’s interesting stuff nonetheless, it’ll run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor chip.

The handset would be going head-to-head with similar devices from Samsung, LG and a rumoured phone from HTC.

The one picture we’ve seen, which actually appears to be a render, looks like a remarkably thin device and earlier reports of a handset with a similar name and specs may peg it at a mere 6.9mm thick.

Other possible, though not confirmed, features include a 12-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel front-facer, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage and a 2,500mAh battery pack.

Oppo appears to be one of the more up-and-coming phone-makers based in China and in recent years we’ve seen similar companies Huawei and ZTE make an imprint on the UK market.

Whether Oppo has plans to follow suit remains to be seen but if this is the calibre of handset we can expect it’s a tantalising prospect.
