Dropbox on Android has a new update with a selection of extra features

Dropbox, the popular cloud storage app, has just received a beta build of a new update for the Android platform.

The new build, version 2.1.8.6, improves video playback on Android 4.0 and 4.1, as well as introducing video thumbnail previews to your stored content.

There’s a bit of a focus on the Nexus 7 tablet for this particular patch, as it now has an updated interface which includes an option to open Dropbox folders from inside other apps.

As usual there’s also a selection of bugfixes which aren’t explained in any detail on Dropbox’s forum post announcement.

As this is a beta update you have to install it as an APK file from the Android device itself, although a commenter on the Verge points out a neat little way of installing it:

‘I installed this by downloading the APK to my Dropbox folder on PC, then opening the APK on the Nexus 7. Ah, technology!’
