iPad users are spending £45,000 a day on newspaper and magazines for their devices

A report has revealed iPad owners around the world are spending £45,000 a day on newspapers and magazines via Apple's Newsstand application.

The report, by Distimo, investigated into the top 100 Newsstand downloads and discovered the majority of the revenue from Newsstand apps comes from in-app subscriptions.

The top grossing apps included those produced by The New York Times, The Daily and the New Yorker.

These companies offer their apps for free, but you will have to sign up for a subscription to view the content.

Apple's Newsstand application launched as part of the iOS 5 suite of apps in June 2011 and some say it has revolutionised news and magazine content consumption.

When CNET calculated how much each iPad user spent a day on digital subs, it discovered the total would account for less than one penny a day, so it's not that much, really....
