Starbucks introduces contactless mobile payment to the UK
Starbucks has released its one-tap phone payment app in the UK
Starbucks has launched its new iPhone app which allows customers to pay for their coffee with a swipe of their smartphone.
The app launched in the US at the start of 2010, so we’re a bit behind on this one as a nation, but the moment is finally here where we can pay for our morning caffeine fix without those fiddly and archaic things called coins.
Card-holding Starbucks customers can link the new app to their account, allowing one-touch payment at around 700 Starbucks outlets across the country.
Many phones are now NFC capable and it’s a trend which looks set to continue, several announced and rumoured phones on the radar are boasting NFC capability.
However, seeing any kind of true uptake from consumers will require retailers to see the potential in the technology and for its implementation to become more widespread.
Starbucks taking this first step may well encourage other franchises to get in on the digital payment action. The end result could be a much faster, more convenient and hassle-free shopping experience for everyone.
