Android Ice Cream Sandwich hitting Nexus S ‘in weeks’
Google has confirmed that the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update will be hitting the Google Nexus S in a matter of weeks
Google Nexus S users will be able to download Android Ice Cream Sandwich in a matter of weeks, claims Google.
We also heard yesterday that Google’s first handset, the Nexus One, hasn’t made the cut and will be stuck eternally on Gingerbread. This will no doubt irritate quite a few Android purists, especially since Google claimed that Ice Cream Sandwich will be the update that binds all Android devices under one roof.
We guess the dream of a unified Android ecosystem is just a . Nevertheless, this is still good news for Nexus S owners, who will be one of the first users to get Android 4.0 after the Galaxy Nexus.
Google’s Hugo Barra, product management director of Android, confirmed the news whilst speaking to The Telegraph. According to Barra, Google aims to get the Nexus S running Android 4.0 in a matter of weeks, which means it’ll probably land around the same time as the release of the Galaxy Nexus in the UK.
‘Android, especially this new version 4.0,’ said Barra, ‘is an incredibly intuitive platform – the best one we’ve ever built. There are power user features, but there is no need for an instruction manual or a computer science degree.’
The Galaxy Nexus will be getting an official release in the UK on November 17. With that date in mind, we’d expect the Nexus S to get the Ice Cream Sandwich update around the late November.
