Sandra Vogel
As well as emails themselves the Nokia N70 can be used to read PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents so you can read attachments
Your Nokia N70 can be used to send and receive email on the move as well as attach documents to your messages. This illustrated guide shows you how...
If you have followed our step by step instructions and set up your Nokia N70 for email, then the next thing to do is learn how to read, create and manage them on your phone.
As well as emails themselves the Nokia N70 can be used to read PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents so you can read attachments. You may find the screen a little small for reading long or complex documents, though.
Create an email
- At the phone’s main screen press the left Selection key if the shortcut showing on screen is Message. If it is not, press the Nokia Menu key to the left of the 1 and 2 keys and choose Messaging
- Next use the scroll key to highlight Create message and click its centre button. Then scroll down to highlight E-mail and then choose OK with the left select key.
- In the new screen that appears scroll down to the To field. Now you can either type the email address you are sending to or, if the person is in your contact book already, press the centre of the navigation button to see a list of contacts, scroll to the one you want, choose OK with the left select key and they will be inserted automatically
- Do the same with the Cc field if you want to copy your email to anybody. Tip: use the 1 key to enter a dot in any email address and use the star key to call up a table of symbols from which you can choose the @ symbol
- Next scroll down to the ‘Subject’ area and write the subject of your email
- Finally, scroll down further and write the content
- When you are happy with your email choose Options with the left select key and then choose Send
Immediate send and sending later
If you have set email up to send immediately the send will happen straight away. If you have set it up to send at the next manual connection the message will go when you make a connection.
In this case you need to choose scroll down to Outbox and click the centre of the navigation button to select it. You will see any messages you have created, marked as Queued. Next choose Options with the left selection key, then choose Send. Watch while your phone connects then send the email(s).
Retrieving email
At the phone’s main screen press the left Selection key if the shortcut showing on screen is Messag. If it is not, press the Nokia Menu key to the left of the 1 and 2 keys and choose Messaging
Scroll down to your mailbox and press the centre of the navigation button to select it
You will be asked if you want to ‘Connect to mailbox?’. Choose Yes with the left select key and watch while a connection is made and email is downloaded. Choose Options and Disconnect when you are finished.
Deletion
When you choose to delete emails you can opt to delete them from the phone only or the server as well. Deleting from the phone only will mean you can pick messages up again from your main computer later on, deleting from the server will mean they are gone forever and you can’t pick them up from your main computer later.
Attachments
If an email has an attachment it will be indicated by a small icon towards the top of the screen. Choose Options with the left select key, then choose Attachments then click to select the attachment you want to view. If it is in a supported format it will open on screen. To finish viewing choose Back with the right selection key.
