Mobile Choice Nokia N96 Review
"Whether or not you are a fan of robot movies, you’ll find the Nokia N96 to be a powerhouse of a phone and a techie’s delight; but, despite its many attributes, it does have its flaws. It’s quite chunky, the plastic rear casing feels cheap, there is no camera lens cover, it is a little slow at times and can occasionally freeze on you. Many would argue that these glitches shouldn’t detract from an otherwise mighty handset, but we can’t help feeling that, for all its strengths, the N96 lacks the polish to make it a true great."

“The N95 was a truly revolutionary product -- and the N96 is simply a different evolution of the same thing. It's a still a great phone that's bursting at the seams with top-notch features, but it's not a huge update on the original. Most importantly, it doesn't provide anywhere near as good a user experience as the iPhone.”

“Nokia's flagship smartphone just got better! Complete with 16 GB built-in memory, GPS satellite navigation, a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, 3G video calling, and every other gadget you can think of! On the downside it's large, battery life is poor, and the Symbian operating system is still not 100% reliable.”

“Nokia's N95 was the swiss-army smartphone taken to its logical conclusion. If it didn't quite claim to be all things to all men, it at least claimed to be a phone/camera/media player/GPS/mobile messager/computer/games machine to them... but it's safe to say that there were a few areas where it fell down. Not wishing to be mean, it was a slightly cheap-feeling porker of a phone with poor battery life, and the design as a whole wasn't quite as well thought out and executed as it could have been. The N95 8GB update did a bit to correct this, and the true sequel - the N96 - does even more. The question is: is that enough? ”

“The N96 is an evolution and refinement of the Nokia N95 rather than a whole new model, but seeing as the original phone was very good to start with (it was voted Best Mobile Phone at the 2007 Pocket-lint Awards) this isn't a bad thing. The larger screen, refined design and additional memory bring the phone back up to flagship level, something which over the last year the N95 had started to lose. However, 6 months on from its initial announcement and the N96 is starting to wane in sex appeal compared to the plethora of touchscreen handsets available... This is Nokia doing what it does best, you just have to ask whether that "best" is good enough against the competition in today's crowded market.”

“When we saw the list of specs for the Nokia N96, we thought they had repeated the N95's spec sheet by mistake. Now, we see it's no bad thing keeping to a winning formula. The big change is the 16 GB of internal memory with the ability to add more using memory cards, and a clever kickstand to let you stand the phone up when watching video... good multimedia and a great camera. Bring it on!”
