Setting up Bluetooth on the N70

This guide shows you how to set up Bluetooth on your Nokia N70 so you can communicate wirelessly for free with other devices
Bluetooth is a very handy thing to have on a mobile phone. You can use it to share information with other devices that also have Bluetooth without the need to make a physical connection. You can make connections with devices like your PC or Mac, other phones or wireless headsets.
Here we’ll show you how to turn Bluetooth on and to ensure your phone is secure by keeping the connection hidden.
First press the Nokia Menu key to the left of the 1 and 2 keys then scroll to Connect. and select it by pressing the centre of the navigation key. Then choose then Bluetooth in the same way.
You are now asked to give your phone a name so that other devices can identify it. The default is ‘Nokia N70’ but you can change this to anything you like by typing the new name then choosing OK with the left select key.
Note that towards the bottom of the screen it says ‘My phone’s name’ and displays the current name. You come here to change the name of your phone that others see at any time.
Now highlight where it says ‘Bluetooth’ and press the centre of the navigation key repeatedly to turn Bluetooth on then off.
Scroll down to where it says ‘My phone’s visibility’. If it says ‘Hidden’ press the centre of the navigation key so that it says ‘Shown to all’ and again so that it goes back to ‘Hidden’.
In Hidden mode other devices can’t see your phone, which means they can’t try to make connections without your permission, but you can still use Bluetooth for example with a Bluetooth handsfree headset or to share files.
When Bluetooth is switched on a small icon is on the main screen of your Nokia N70. Leaving Bluetooth on all the time can result in reduced battery life, so it might be a good idea to turn it on and off only when you want to use it.
Sending files via Bluetooth is easy. If the Options menu in any application has the option to Send you can usually choose Via Bluetooth as one of the options.
You don’t need to make a permanent connection with another device to share a file, just ensure its Bluetooth is switched and it is not more than about ten metres away so that the Nokia N70 can find it.
