We review the Nokia 6700 Slide, a traditional budget-smartphone from the Finnish phone giant that’s, well, not very exciting at all
The Nokia 6700 Slide - a phone for people that don't want much from their devices Published on Jun 4, 2010 Page : 1 2For some people, mobile phones are simply a basic nuance of modern life – i.e. if they want to speak to people, they have to have one. And this is fine. But for the vast majority of people, mobile phones are awesome little bundles of technology that connect you to a world of information and friends – which is, something the aforementioned people are really missing out on. Luckily, Nokia caters to the needs of people that don’t demand much from their mobiles and the Nokia 6700 Slide is the perfect phone for children or adults that, for whatever reason, don’t want the hassle of “all that fancy stuff”. The Nokia 6700 Slide has no “fancy stuff.” And when we say, “no fancy stuff,” we really mean it. The Nokia 6700 Slide doesn’t have anything remotely striking about it – apart from the device’s weight, which is bordering on ridiculous for its size. For instance, it’s significantly heavier than our BlackBerry Bold 9700 and it’s probably about half the size, which isn’t a good thing – ever. On the home screen you’re confronted with a familiar collection of icons, which link to the following things: set-up email, camera, Ovi Store, Facebook, Browser, Message and Photos. Anyone that’s used a Nokia S60 device before will feel right at home. On the plus side, the Nokia 6700 Slide has a pretty decent camera, so you’ll able to snap some fairly decent pictures. However, during testing we did find that the actual process of taking a picture was quite a long one – about 3 seconds from pressing the button. Couple this with the fact that there is about a gazillion better handsets with better camera on the market and not even 5-megapixels of Carl Zeiss, auto-focus, LED flash-action can save the 6700 Slide. Storage wise, the Nokia 6700 Slide is pretty damn good, featuring 2GB onboard and a further 16GB via SD card. In this context, the Nokia 6700 Slide has a lot going for it – you’ll be able to fit plenty of music and video on 16GB of space. Unfortunately – and there always is with low-end Nokia devices – there’s no support for 3.5mm jack input, so you’ll have to listen to your 16GB of music through the 2.5mm headphones the 6700 Slide comes with – which are, quite possibly, the worst headphones in the universe.
